The tenants of naturopathic medicine are:

  • Using the healing power of nature

  • Identify the root cause

  • Support the whole person

  • Doctor as teacher

Naturopathic doctors are required to complete an undergraduate degree prior to obtaining their 4 year naturopathic doctor degree. They must attend one of the 7 accredited schools in North America, complete

1200 hours of clinical experience, and a series of entry to practice examinations prior to being licensed.

Millions of Canadians use complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) alongside their conventional health care team for health optimization and prevention. Naturopathic medicine fits under the CAM umbrella and pairs modern scientific evidence with traditional and natural supports.

Commonly Asked Questions:

What happens in a visit?

A lot of talking happens in our visits! This is your time to ask in-depth questions, we review bloodwork, I do pertinent physical exams, and we discuss your support plan going forward.

How long are appointments?

Initial visits are 1 hour in length, either in person or a virtual video call. Follow up appointments are 30-45 minutes every 4 weeks until you feel comfortable with your progress. After this appointments can be spaced out to once every 3-4 months.

Can I see a naturopathic doctor and conventional family doctor (GP) at the same time?

Absolutely. The best health results happen with a team. Your medical doctor or nurse practitioner is there to support you with a finding a diagnosis and appropriately treating with medications and other therapies.

My role is to give evidence-based recommendations for your condition: help with dietary changes, appropriate supplements, lifestyle counselling, explain bloodwork, and suggest accessing other health professionals when appropriate.

Are you able to run labs?

Unfortunately, New Brunswick naturopathic doctors are not regulated. At this time we don’t have the ability to requisition bloodwork. I almost always go over recent bloodwork from your GP and advocate for other testing when appropriate.

Functional testing from private labs such as food sensitivity testing or hormonal tests can be discussed on a case by case basis.

Do I need a referral to see Dr. Brennan?

No, you do not need a doctor or nurse practitioner referral to access naturopathic care.

Are you covered by insurance?

Naturopathic services are covered under Naturopathy by most insurance companies. Supplements are typically not covered by insurance.

Are naturopathic services covered through the public healthcare system?

No, at this time naturopathic medicine is not covered under public health or Medicare.
